Meet Susan E. Pedersen

Owner of Black-Eyed Susan Art;
Accomplished Photographer and Textile Artist
Susan is a native of Chester, New Jersey. Surrounded by creativity as her parents met at The Newark School of fine Art, it has been a constant in her life. Her talents including pen and ink drawings, watercolor, pastel, photography and most recently wearable Textile Art.
Susan appreciates all types of photography especially macro, capturing the simple and small things in nature the eye might miss. Sharing her photography with others so that they might see things the beauty of things in a new light.
Susan taught herself to felt after seeing the Art of Felt in a gallery in Amhearst, Massachusetts, This has become a huge passion, and she created a line of one-of-a-kind wearable art under her name Susan E. Pedersen. The process is called 'wet felting' and it is a combination of merino wool and different silks. With soap, water and friction, she can create spectacular and unique fabrics. There is no sewing, knitting or gluing involved, simply hard work and she infuses all her textiles with healing light and love.
Susan is also a Contributing Photographer for The Black River Journal, and she has a featured article in the current Winter 2013 edition entitled "On The Hunt". Susan loves capturing the traditions and flavor of The Essex Fox Hounds, who will be celebration their Centennial this year. Many folks may recognize some of her previous Hunt photos from the 2010 Peapack-Gladstone Bank Calander, for which she earned a Silver Award from the Art Directors Club of New Jersey. She has also been published in New Jersey's Great Destinations and several other publications throughout the years.
